STOP THE PRESSES

Pin It AAACK! I just thought of something I can do. And now I'm so excited that I'm going to just post about it before I even think it through (because that's what I do).

Many moons ago a few bloggy friends and I were talking about putting together a blog book, kind of inspired by this book, except ours wasn't going to be for charity. (GREEDY)

It was my idea, and I guess that kind of means I was supposed to be in charge, but I kept forgetting about that part, and now and then I would think, "Huh, I wonder whatever happened with that blogging book?" And then I'd get an email saying, "Hey, Sue, what's going on with the blogging book?" I'd remember about my incharginess for a few minutes and would start making plans, then I'd see something sparkly and forget again. So nothing ever really happened. (SURPRISING!)

But now, I'm thinking we should do the Blog Book, but for CHARITY, with all of the funds going to the NieNie fund. It'll be full of short stories from a lot of witty, wonderful women. Plus me. And then you will all (MAKE IT SO) buy the book and we will make approximately TWELVE BILLION DOLLARS, all for Nie.

Good, right? Right? Kind of?

So, um, I haven't told them this yet, because, you know, spur of the moment, but I'm going to rope in all of the bloggers who were going to participate previously, but then also, we're going to have a contest. A CONTEST. Wheeeeee! If you want to be a part of the book, you'll have the opportunity to submit an entry. I'll blackmail a few people into serving as judges, and we'll pick the stuff we think fits best for publication in the book.

The theme of the book will be, "Sometimes Life is Funny," - and it will be a collection of funny stories from women around the country. I'll give you more specifics in the next few days, once I calm down enough to actually think of specifics.

In the meantime, if you think you might be interested in participating, let me know in the comments. WOOT!

PS: I can't believe I just said WOOT.

PPS: My friend Terri (from THIS post) called me and left a message. And you guys, I CALLED HER BACK! I left a message, then (I swear it's true) I CALLED HER BACK AGAIN and actually SPOKE to her. Using words and everything! She wasn't mad, not even a little bit, and we laughed and laughed and laughed. YAY for friends, and YAY for positive peer pressure from the internet. :>

  1. I won't feel offended or anything.

And yes, I'll buy your book. I would buy your grocery lists, I think. THAT'S how much I love you.

  2. Heidi, this whole blogging book thing was so long ago that I don't think I even "knew" you then. But you'd BETTER SUBMIT SOMETHING for it. Or I will hunt you down, woman, I'm not kidding.

  3. I'd love to participate AND purchase.

  4. This is such a great idea. And maybe the fact that you're doing it for a cause you really care about will make you actually DO IT. (I know all too well what that's like.)

I would LOVE to be published, but I'm not sure I'm witty enough. I'll work on it.

  5. I will definitely buy the book! And believe me, I have some funny stories, so I'll be entering your contest!

PS love your blog I am a total lurker

  6. I am so in, baby.

Meaning "into it", not "in" as in cool. Because that? I am not. Yeah.

    Please let me play too.

There is another auction of a beautiful quilt here also:

And I would DEFINITLY buy the book!

  8. Heidi- if it's funny stuff, you have to submit the naked husband stuff! It's hilarious! I read it out loud to my husband even and I never do that because he's dumb and thinks blogs are dumb. And of course he thought you were funny. Of course!

Love this idea, Sue. I could just feel the great idea popping off the screen in all your excitement. You're one smart cookie. (My dad used to say that, I'm not sure why people become cookies who are smart in that saying, but it's cutsie)

  9. Shouldn't the title of this post be "START the presses?" Count me in to submit an entry for judging. When there are more detaills, let me know: thornytreelady @ gmail . com

  10. Ok, I don't even count myself anywhere near the same witty blogging class as the likes of you or Cjane (I aspire to it, but sometimes it's just so much funnier in my head), but the blog I co-write is all about being brave, so here I am being brave. I want to enter the contest. (Must go make myself funnier. And faster at it. I just re-wrote this comment 3 times. And it's not even funny.) Sigh. Can I still play?

  11. I'm totally in.

Also, I have one or two other people who might be fun to include.

I'm about to plug this on my blog, so let's really do it.

Oh, and distracted by seeing something shiny? That's funny!

  12. Woot! Yes, I'll compete. And yay for you and your friend.

    Woot.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dude, I'll totally buy it. but only if you sign my copy first.

  14. More like "start the presses."
I just told 1,000 people that the book will be ready in a couple of weeks.
    It'll be ready, right?

  15. Wonderful idea.

Do I need to write something new, or shall I enter something from the archives? I don't know anything about writing words that will be printed on trees.

    I think I already have writer's block.

    WOOT.

  16. Something new and unpublished would be GRRRRRRReat. :>

  17. So is there a prerequisite of Mormon-ness? Seriously, why are Mormon women so freakin hilarious!? Is there a whole chapter of your handbook devoted to dominating all other religions in matters of humor? There must be verse that goes something like "Blessed are the blogging Mormon mommies, for they shall receive the most comments."

I'd like to buy your book......f you're making this a non-denominational charity effort;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ha! Yeah Jolee, we have stand-up comedy classes every week after Sunday School. (That would actually be kind of awesome.)

Yes, this is totally non-denominational. :>

  19. Hey Sue - Great idea! I would love to own that book!
And yay for good friends, too. I'm so glad you called. (and then she called, and then you called, and so on...)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'd probably purchase, unless it was abnormally expensive. Except...i wouldn't go with the theme (or any theme, for that matter) ... wouldn't it be easier to have them just write on a variety of subjects? ....

    .....maybe?

  21. So I've been lurking for awhile now (you're even on my "blogs I read" list) and have never commented....sorry. But I like your idea about the book!! It would be fun to participate. I just sent you an invite to my blog since I have to keep it private since I put pictures and stuff on for the fam and since I'm not very good at NOT posting personal information and there are a lot of creepy wierdos out there who could track down my children and abduct them which would actually not be such a bad thing on certain days... BUT, I was hoping you could read a bit of it, and tell me if you think I MIGHT be good enough to contribute...please please please.... If not I'll just buy a copy of the book when it comes out, because I'm sure it will be hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great idea! I'm not all that funny, but I would love to help out if you need someone to edit or do some selecting. I have good language skills and I don't get distracted by sparkly things! :)
You can email me at clbruno at hotmail.

  23. I'm new to this but where do I sign up? Oh, duh right here....Count me in.

  24. This sounds like a great idea. And seems like a Cause would give you the motivation to actually, you know, do it. I think I'm funny, but I write about knitting (well, right now I write about Dish Rag Tag, but it's usually knitting) and knitting is not enthralling to a universal audience.

  25. I'd like to participate in (depending on the entry specifics) and/or purchase such an item.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am WAY too boring to participate...and the funny stuff in my life isn't funny when I write about it....but I would love to buy the book....especially for NieNie , who(m?) I had never heard of before you posted about her crash, but who(m?) I now think about approximately 20 times per day and I just realized what a run on sentence this is and that is another reason I could never participate.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think I want to try to be in it, too. I love contests!! But I will buy one either way, if Im in the cool crowd or not. Such a good idea, Sue!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm smarting a little that I'm not on the list.

    but i'll get over it.

    and I think it's a GREAT idea!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would buy that book.

YOu should get Oh Judy to submit too..she is Nie's sister in Law (and Cjanes) and is really, really funny. Just a thought (she is also at Light Refreshments Served).

I am funny in person. Not in writing. But I buy stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I never win contests, but I do like to buy stuff. Especially book-shaped things.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey, if run on sentences disqualify people I'm in BIG TROUBLE ;>

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've been trying to think of something I could do to help Nie Nie, so I would be happy to participate, and buy the book!

    ReplyDelete
  33. What? I'm not on the short list? (kidding)

You know me, I'll submit anyway. Go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. EEEEEE!!! I LOVE it! And I'm so thrilled to be included that I will get right on that whole "going public" thing. After I move and stuff. But mostly, I'm excited because I want to help that beautiful little family in any way possible.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not funny in print, I really really try, but my sis is. I need to tell her about this.

I'd buy a book and also make delicious treats for a launch party!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I confess I've been a lurker too. You crack me up!
Hopefully I can find something that will crack you up too! And I'll definitely shell out the shekels for the book.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hee hee - you are a nut! Do you have a list of rules? Come on how are we suppose to play (or cheat) if we don't know the rules? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. me, me, pick me! i will help in any way i can. i can submit or edit, or praise, or wipe sweaty brows or whatever. let me know...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm one of those horrible lurkers you hate, and I want to say, Yes, I will buy the book, and yes please, I would like to submit something!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Stalking/Lurker person here. If you still need material, I'd love to contribute. Many of my posts are just random pontifications about nothing, but they usually contain a fair amount of humor.

BTW, I think this is a GREAT idea!

    ReplyDelete
  41. WHAT? THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would like to have a go at it. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey I'll submit something. If you want. I'm funny. No, not just funny-looking, ha ha, not funny Sue.
