I was using the power sander yesterday, trying to get all of the old finish off of an old dining room table, when I caught sight of my feet, which have not had a proper pedicure in months. I have callous issues. They are not pretty.
Inspired by an old tip from FMHLisa, I looked at the sander, and then at my feet. And gave it a whirl. I sort of expected that when I was finished, my feet would be baby soft and smooth. And what do you know?
It totally didn’t work.
It’ll sand all of the finish off a ten year old pine table, but it won’t even put a dent in the callouses on my heels. Egads.
Sounds like a friend of mine that took a buck knife to her ingrown toenail. Let professionals do their jobs. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a rip off! I'd call the manufacturer and complain!
ReplyDeletemaybe a grinder? 100 grit should do the trick...=)
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave one! I'm glad to know it doesn't work because my feet could also use some good sanding. I think I will have to try another method.
ReplyDeletesend me an email... there's this ghetto little place down by Gold's Gym in AF that is well worth your while. Heck, I'll even go with ya.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Santa needs to bring you Vaseline and a pair of socks for Christmas : )
ReplyDeleteToo funny, Sue! Who would have thought a power sander couldn't help out a few calluses? I've never had a proper pedicure in my life--my feet are way ticklish!
ReplyDelete"...gave it a whirl"
ReplyDelete*giggle*
You're crazy!
Heidi :)
I am embarrassed that I even know this, but my husband has been known to take the dremel tool to his feet. Works like a charm for him. I'm afraid to try it.
ReplyDeleteOh my you did not!
ReplyDeleteGirl you are a hot mess!
Two words for you.
ReplyDeletePumice. Stone.
You are nuts. I love that about you.
Sue. Foot scrub. Pumice stone. Lotion.
ReplyDeleteOr you could get thet pedi-egg thingy on TV. Don't know if it works, but it can't be half as dangerous as a POWER SANDER.
Hmmmm.... A hot mess. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
ReplyDeleteWendy. You obviously have not seen my foot care COLLECTION. I could open a store. The power sander - I was just thinking that would save some serious time.
Hmmmmm.... A dremel.... I don't know what that is, but it sounds dangerous. Wesley's mom, I like the way you think.
Man, I'm so bummed out today. And these comments are making me feel like a TOAD. Not your fault though - MINE, because I totally asked for it. My fault, because when will I learn to WAIT AND THINK ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE BEFORE HITTING POST?! Sometimes it is a dangerous thing, this having a blog. There IS such a thing as too much information.
Kalli - let's go, seriously. I LOVE pedicures. I used to get them at least once a month, but haven't been for a while what with the whole, not having two quarters to rub together thing.
OK, Sue, once you get that pedicure, you need to take care of your feet. Here's what my pedicurist has drummed into my head.
ReplyDelete1. A good lotion or cream on your feet, every day without fail
2. Don't go barefoot all the time. I know that flip flops are generally the foot wear of choice, but your feet need to be covered up to prevent callouses.
Hope you have happy feet real soon.
Oh dear. I totally expected this to go the other way, in the which you decimated your feet to bleeding pulps.
ReplyDeleteAt least it didn't work well enough, instead of working too well...
I have Kimberly (of Temporary? Insanity) to thank for sending me here! I've read nearly the entire page of posts, I couldn't stop myself! I was laughing out loud much of the time and cried a bit at your engagement story. Awesome blog! I hope you don't mind me instantly adding you to my bloglist.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Miracle Foot Repair Cream is awesome stuff--but you actually have to put it on your feet for it to work. I could sand wood with my feet right now.
One sentence I know I will never be able to begin a blog post with: "I was using the power sander yesterday."
ReplyDeleteVaseline on your feet (put on socks afterward) before you go to bed does the trick. Do it every night, though.
I hear that slathering the feet with Crisco and wearing sox to bed does the trick. Softens everything, they say. Not sure how often this needs to be done to maintain baby soft feet... At least the hydrogenated vegetable oils in the Crisco should gum up your arteries if it is applied to the outside of your body!
ReplyDeleteOK, so it sounds like I will definitely be using either Crisco or Vaseline for the next few days. I hate wearing socks at night, but I guess it's better than ending up with hooves.
ReplyDeleteMom - well, now you know what to get me for Christmas, eh?
Rebecca - You made my day, thanks...
SC - Everyone should use a power sander at least once. It makes me feel so powerful. Destroying stuff is fun.
You are crazy! That's a first and I was sure you were going to say that it did work. Funny - see ya.
ReplyDeleteSeriously woman, a power sander? I cannot believe you didn't have a Part 2 describing your trip to the hospital.
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on the cracked heels. My first pedicure went something like this: "Oh wow...Your heels are pretty bad...uh...let me go in the back and see if we've got anything..." and it still didn't work! I've tried graters, pumice stones, vaseline, creams. Nothing touches it. I admire that you tried the sander.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! So sad that it didn't work out. But that doesn't mean it might not work for me!!!
ReplyDeleteCredo blade. Go to your local beauty supply and get yourself a credo blade. They are FABULOUS.
